Quote – ‘A picture paints a thousand words’ how very true!

Especially for me as a designer, I am lucky to be able to visualise many ideas and designs; the trouble I have is choosing which ideas to run with as the choice is endless.

So, where do my ideas come from?

Generally my inspiration is taken from places that I visit.  For example, the ‘shifting sands’ collection was taken and continues to develop from visiting the Norfolk coastline.

Norfolk had been an undiscovered part of the world for me, but on a visit about eight years ago I was blown away by the sheer beauty and vastness of the seascape.  Sky, sea and sand rolling before my eyes seemed to be so empty of ‘things’ it’s quite hard to articulate, but there just seemed to be so much space that was free from clutter and objects.  On one of my walks along the coastline I came across a half wrecked boat, heavy and tilted in the sands, bereft of the buoyancy of the mighty sea.  It was like a great artistic sculpture rising out of the seascape with its magnificent textures, shapes and colours.

This brings me back full circle to my designing.  After that visit,  I was compelled to interpret what I had seen and  somehow express the feelings that had arisen from seeing the patterns , textures and movement of the land.

The Shifting Sands Collection

The collection ‘shifting sands’ follows through the sky, sea and sand theme often incorporating theses three parts as three simple lines. Rocks and pebbles are represented with small beads of silver and gold and beautiful gemstones / diamonds are also often set in amongst the movement of the metal.

This handmade work is definitely organic in flavour and my hope is that if you own a piece, it reminds you also of that  special stroll.
